The Bulk Current Injection (BCI) probes from Fischer Custom Communications (FCC) enable inductive coupling of RF interference currents into cables and wiring harnesses. They are designed for conducted EMC immunity testing of electronic components, assemblies and systems without disconnecting the electrical circuit under test.

The FCC BCI probe portfolio includes different frequency ranges, power ratings and clamp geometries. The F-120-9A, F-140 and F-150 are three representative models for testing applications between 10 kHz and 2.1 GHz. Model selection depends primarily on the applicable test standard, operating frequency, required RF power handling and cable harness dimensions.

Advantages

  • Inductive RF current injection: Conducted immunity testing on cables and wiring harnesses without interrupting electrical connections.
  • Different frequency ranges: Dedicated models for low-frequency, broadband and high-frequency BCI testing.
  • Standards-oriented selection: Models associated with IEC/EN 61000-4-6, ISO 13766-2 and ISO 11452-4.
  • Different power ratings: RF CW rated power of 100 W or 250 W for the selected models.
  • Matching calibration fixtures: Model-specific fixtures for calibration and preparation of BCI test setups.
  • Flexible integration: Suitable for EMC laboratories, development environments and system qualification testing.

  • Aerospace and avionics: Investigation of conducted RF immunity in electronic systems.
  • EMC compliance testing: Implementation of standards-based Bulk Current Injection test procedures.
  • Development and qualification: Evaluation of electronic components and systems exposed to injected RF interference currents.
  • EMC test laboratories: Integration into test setups using RF amplifiers, measurement and monitoring equipment, and suitable calibration fixtures.

Additional Information

BCI probe calibration: Appropriate calibration fixtures are used to prepare BCI immunity tests. These fixtures support determination of the RF forward power required to generate specified test currents under defined calibration conditions.

FCC offers the following matching calibration fixtures for the selected models:

  • F-120-9A: FCC-BCICF-6-150
  • F-140: FCC-BCICF-2
  • F-150: FCC-BCICF-150

Selecting the appropriate BCI probe: Key selection criteria include the required frequency range, applicable test standard, RF CW power rating, probe inner diameter and geometry of the cable harness under test. The complete requirements of the specific test procedure must also be considered.

EMCO Elektronik provides technical assistance in selecting appropriate BCI current injection probes and matching calibration fixtures. With expertise in EMC and RF measurement technology, EMCO helps customers identify solutions suited to their development, testing and qualification requirements.
