The EMC HLM-05 Helmholtz Coil is a compact Helmholtz coil designed to generate precisely defined magnetic fields from DC to 30 MHz. It is suitable for calibration, verification and immunity test tasks requiring a reproducible magnetic field for EM field sensors or small DUTs.

The generated magnetic field is directly and linearly related to the coil current. This allows the fieldstrength to be calculated from the coil geometry, number of turns and coil current. The EMC HLM-05 is therefore particularly suitable for the calibration of magnetic field probes and periodic sensor verification.

Advantages

  • Precisely defined magnetic fields from DC to 30 MHz.
  • Linear relationship between coil current and magnetic fieldstrength for traceable field calculation.
  • Suitable for PMM EHP 50 series Electro Magnetic field sensors calibration and periodic verification.
  • High field levels with low power input for compact test setups.
  • Compact space-saving design with high resistance polycarbonate body.
  • Compatible with different EM field sensors using interchangeable fixtures.
  • EMCO supports technical users in selecting and integrating magnetic field calibration, EMC and immunity testing solutions.

Additional information

The EMC HLM-05 generates magnetic fields whose fieldstrength can be calculated using analytical or numerical methods. The calculation is based on the coil geometry, number of turns and coil current.

Thanks to its high temperature proof wire packet, magnetic fields up to approximately 3000 A/m can be generated for short durations. Magnetic field calibration is traceable to a current measurement or to a voltage drop across a known resistor. The Helmholtz Coil itself does not require calibration.

For installation, the Helmholtz Coil should be placed on a desk with sufficient distance from sources of unintentional magnetic fields. These include transformers in power supplies, conductors carrying high currents, computer monitors, loudspeakers, CRT systems and magnetic materials such as steel, nickel or cobalt.

Connection is made through red and black banana sockets. Suitable generators, current sources or audio amplifiers can be used as the current source. The connection wires should be twisted to avoid unwanted magnetic flux injection.
